Anyone else dealing with an aggressive cat lately?

My cat’s been super moody lately… swatting, hissing, even tried to bite me outta nowhere :weary:. I thought it was just rough play, but now I’m not so sure. Like, could it be stress or something medical? I’ve heard stuff about redirected aggression too but IDK. Anyone been through this and figured out what actually helped?

Yeah mine did the same when we brought a new puppy home. Total meltdown mode :joy:. Turns out she was just being territorial. Gave her a quiet space and it helped a lot.

Omg same here. My cat started growling when we added a new kitten. Giving her her own zone definitely helped.

@Vero
Wait, what do you mean by ‘her own zone’? Like a separate room?

Yeah exactly. Like just giving her a room with her food, litter, and a cozy hideout so she feels safe without all the chaos.

Could be pain too. Mine started acting out and we found out she had arthritis. Took her to the vet and now she’s way calmer.

Ugh never thought about that… do they hide pain tho?

@Yan
Yeah totally. Cats are sneaky like that. They’ll hide it until it’s bad. Vet visit is def worth it.

Sounds like redirected aggression maybe? Like if they see a stray cat outside and take it out on you lol.

Yeah my cat saw a squirrel outside once and just went off on my leg. Wild behavior :sweat_smile:

So like they’re mad at something else but attack whoever’s close?

Try positive reinforcement. Like clicker training or treats when they chill. Helped my cat stop lashing out.

Never tried clicker training before… is it easy?

It’s not too hard! Just click and treat when they’re calm or do something good. Builds trust over time.

Just don’t yell or spray them. That stuff just makes it worse. My vet told me it just makes them scared and more aggressive.

For real. I used to spray mine and it totally backfired. She stopped trusting me for a while :sweat:

@Brooke
Same. Took me forever to rebuild the bond. Now I just walk away and let her cool off.
