I have a Bernese Mountain Dog, and I’m starting to notice some health problems popping up. I heard they can have issues like hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. I’m worried about the possibility of bloat too. Does anyone else deal with these problems with their Berners? How do you handle it?
Yeah, my Berner started showing signs of hip dysplasia around 3 years old. It’s rough watching them go through it, but keeping their weight in check and getting regular checkups helps. You should definitely talk to your vet about it!

Yes! It slows down their growth and can prevent bones from growing too fast. My vet recommended it, and it seems to help with the pain.
I had no idea about PRA in Berners! My dog started acting weird and bumping into things. After the vet test, it turned out to be PRA. So sad… but there’s not much they can do.

I’ve heard PRA is pretty common in this breed. My dog started having trouble with vision too, but thankfully it’s only mild so far.
Oh man, bloat is terrifying! My Berner almost had it, but I caught it in time. If you see your dog acting weird or trying to throw up but nothing comes out, get them to the vet ASAP. It’s a total emergency.

I had no idea how serious bloat was until it almost happened to us too. I’m definitely keeping a closer eye on my dog now. Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, my Berner was diagnosed with it when he was about a year old. It’s been tough, especially after injuries, but regular vet checkups help us manage it.

I totally agree! They’re the best dogs, even with all the health stuff. We just gotta keep an eye on them and give them the love they need.
