Anyone else’s pit bull dealing with health issues?

I’ve been looking into common health problems for pit bulls and wow… didn’t realize they’re prone to so many issues. Things like hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, skin allergies, and even knee problems. Anyone here have a pit that’s had any of these? What helped?

Yeah, my pit started gaining weight like crazy, turns out it was hypothyroidism. Vet put him on meds and he’s back to normal now.

What were the signs? My dog’s been putting on weight but I thought it was just from extra treats lol.

@Remy
Hair loss, dry skin, and he was kinda sluggish. If you’re worried, a vet can do a blood test to check.

Hip dysplasia is rough… my dog has trouble standing up sometimes. Vet suggested regular checkups to monitor it. Anyone tried joint supplements?

Yeah, glucosamine supplements helped my dog a lot. Also keeping his weight down so there’s less stress on his joints.

Anyone else dealing with skin allergies? My pit constantly scratches and gets these dry, flaky patches. I’ve tried different foods, but nothing seems to help.

Could be pollen or dust allergies. My vet recommended a special shampoo and it’s been way better.

@Landry
Did the shampoo have anything specific in it? I might need to try that.

My pit does this weird skipping thing when he walks sometimes… is that normal?

That could be a luxating patella—basically, the kneecap sliding out of place. Sometimes it pops back in on its own, but if it’s bad, surgery might be needed.

Oh wow, I had no idea. I’ll have to watch more closely, thanks!

Just wanna say, pit bulls are tough little guys. My vet says they can live up to 14 years if you take good care of them. Regular checkups are a must!
