Trying to crate train my pup, but IDK if I’m doing it right… He cries every time I put him in there. I know crates are supposed to help with house training and anxiety, but he’s not feeling it. Any tips to make him more comfortable?
Yeah, my pup did the same at first. Try giving him a treat every time he goes in. It helped mine get used to it.

Oh, that’s smart! Do you leave treats in there when they’re inside too?
@Torin
Yeah, sometimes I hide treats in his bed so he associates it with good stuff. Makes it more fun for him.

Are you making the crate comfy? Like adding blankets or a bed? My pup hated the crate until I made it cozier.
I put a little bed in there, but maybe it’s not soft enough. I’ll try adding more blankets!
Tbh, starting with small increments helped me. I only put my pup in for a few mins at a time and gradually increased it.

Oh, that makes sense. How long did it take for your pup to be okay with it?
@Jody
Maybe a week or so? First, I did like 5-10 mins, then longer each day. Now he goes in on his own when he’s tired!
If you put them in when they’re already sleepy, they won’t fuss as much. Play with them first so they’re tired!

That actually makes a lot of sense. I’ll try tiring him out before putting him in!
Anyone else use their crate for traveling too? Mine loves it now, so it’s been great for car rides!

Yeah, it makes traveling way easier! No stress when they already see it as a safe space.
