Anyone else worried about their Sphynx cat's health?

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Sphynx cats lately, and it seems like they’re prone to quite a few health issues. From skin problems to heart disease, it’s a lot to keep track of. Has anyone else dealt with these issues? I’m worried about my cat’s dental care and keeping her warm during the cold months. Any tips or advice would be super helpful!

@Vine
I haven’t yet, but I’ll definitely give it a try. What kind of shampoo do you use? I’ve been worried about using the wrong one and making it worse.

Same here with the warmth issue! My Sphynx cat hates the cold. I got her a heated bed and she LOVES it. She’s so much more comfortable now, especially with winter coming in full force.

Ooh, that sounds perfect! I’ve been thinking about getting a heated bed for mine. Do you have a specific brand or one you’d recommend?

@Ash
I went with the PetFusion heated one, it’s pretty cozy and safe. Plus, it doesn’t get too hot, so you don’t have to worry about overheating!

I’ve been really worried about HCM too. My Sphynx is only 4, but I’m always keeping an eye out for breathing issues. I try to keep him active, but it’s tough sometimes.

I hear you. I had no idea about HCM until recently, but now it’s definitely something I’m paying more attention to. Regular vet visits are key, I guess.

@Ash
Definitely. I’ve been scheduling checkups more regularly. I feel better knowing I’m keeping an eye on it early. Fingers crossed he stays healthy!

Dental care is a nightmare with Sphynx cats! I brush my cat’s teeth every day, but he’s still had a couple of issues with gum disease. The vet cleans them every year, though, which helps a lot.

Daily brushing sounds like a lot, but I guess it’s worth it. I’ve been meaning to get into the habit. What kind of toothpaste do you use?

@Ash
I use a cat-specific toothpaste that’s safe for their teeth. They don’t really like the flavor, but it gets the job done! You can find it online or at the vet.

I’ve never heard of Hereditary Myopathy, but now I’m curious. How would you even know if your cat has it? Is it something that shows up when they’re older?

It’s a genetic condition, so it can show up in kittens, but they may not show symptoms right away. Some signs are difficulty moving or head-bobbing, but you should definitely ask your breeder about testing if you’re getting one from them.

@Ash
Ah, got it. That makes sense. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever decide to adopt a Sphynx. Thanks for the heads up!
