Anyone else's dog get random hiccups?

My dog randomly gets hiccups sometimes, and IDK if I should be worried or not. He eats pretty fast, so maybe that’s why? They don’t last long, but still, is this normal?

Yeah, my pup used to get them all the time when he was younger. Apparently, puppies hiccup more than older dogs. Something to do with lung development? :man_shrugging:

Oh wow, I didn’t know that. So they just grow out of it?

@Wynne
Yeah, mine barely gets them anymore now that he’s older. Unless he scarfs down food too fast lol.

If your dog eats super fast, he might be swallowing air, which can cause hiccups. Try a slow feeder bowl!

A slow feeder bowl? Never heard of that. What is it?

It’s a special bowl with ridges that makes dogs eat slower. Helps with digestion too!

I’ve noticed my dog gets them when he’s excited or stressed. Maybe check if it happens after playing or when something new happens?

Hmm, could be! He gets them after running around like crazy. Never thought about that.

You can try gently massaging his chest or belly when he gets them. It helps relax the diaphragm.

Oh, that’s interesting! I’ll give it a try next time.

Most hiccups are harmless, but if they last over an hour or come with weird breathing issues, you should probably check with a vet.

Yeah, his hiccups don’t last that long, so I guess I won’t stress too much. Thanks!
