I love my Frenchie, but man, these little guys come with a lot of health stuff. Mine has been snoring like crazy, and I read it might be brachycephalic syndrome? Also noticed he scratches his ears a lot. Anyone else dealing with similar issues?
Yeah, Frenchies have a ton of health problems. My vet said their flat faces make breathing hard. Snoring, coughing, even fainting can happen if it’s bad.

Fainting?? I didn’t even know that was a thing. Is there anything I can do to help?
@Finch
Keeping them at a healthy weight helps a lot. If they’re overweight, it makes breathing even harder.
@Finch
Surgery is an option if it’s really bad, but usually only if the dog has major breathing issues.
My Frenchie had ear infections constantly. Their big ears trap moisture and bacteria. Had to start cleaning them regularly.

What do you use to clean them? Mine keeps scratching at his ears too.
@Corbin
Vet gave me an ear-cleaning solution. I just wipe his ears weekly. If they get smelly or red, it’s probably an infection.
IVDD is another big problem. My pup hesitated going up stairs and later couldn’t walk properly. Vet said it was a spinal issue.

Oh no, did they recover? That sounds scary.
@Zhen
Yeah, but it took time. Vet said no jumping on furniture, and we got a ramp to help with stairs.
Anyone else’s Frenchie have cherry eye? Woke up and my pup had this weird red thing in his eye. Freaked me out.

That’s cherry eye. Their third eyelid pops out. Vet can fix it with surgery.
@Kiran
Surgery? Yikes. Is it serious?
Not always, but if left untreated, it can cause dry eyes and vision problems. Surgery fixes it pretty quickly.
Frenchies don’t live as long as some other breeds. I heard it’s 10-14 years on average. Kinda short compared to other small dogs.

Yeah, compared to Pugs (12-15 years), they have a slightly shorter lifespan. Keeping up with vet visits helps though.
