Anyone else's German Shepherd dealing with health issues?

So I’ve been reading about some common health problems with German Shepherds, and it seems like there are a few things we should all watch out for. Hip dysplasia, bloat, and degenerative myelopathy are some of the big ones. My GSD has been limping a bit, so I’m wondering if it’s early signs of hip dysplasia or something else. Anyone else been through this or noticed these issues with their dogs? Would love to hear your experiences or any advice you might have!

Yeah, my German Shepherd had hip dysplasia when she was about 4. We didn’t catch it early, so it got worse over time. Definitely get an X-ray if you’re unsure!

Wow, that sounds rough. How did you manage it? Did she need surgery or was it just meds?

@Quin
She had surgery in the end, but it really helped her out. After that, we just kept her weight in check and avoided too much running. Vet checkups were a must!

I’ve had issues with bloat before. It’s super scary! My dog was super restless, then started drooling a lot. We rushed him to the vet, and thankfully he’s okay now. Make sure you know the signs!

Oh man, that sounds intense! What signs should we look for exactly? I don’t want to miss it if it happens to my dog.

@Vale
Definitely check for a distended abdomen, drooling, and if they try to vomit but nothing comes out. If you see any of that, get them to the vet ASAP. It’s an emergency!

My GSD has been showing signs of diabetes lately, like drinking tons of water and peeing more than usual. Anyone else deal with this? What’s been working for you?

Same here! My dog was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. It’s all about keeping track of insulin and diet. Regular vet visits are key!

@Kelley
Thanks for the tip! I’ve been managing her diet better, but I’m still trying to figure out the insulin thing. Gonna chat with the vet about it.

I haven’t had issues with hip dysplasia or anything major, but I do notice my GSD gets a bit stiff sometimes after running too much. Has anyone’s dog experienced that?

That’s pretty common, especially in older dogs. You might want to reduce the running if it’s starting to affect them. Maybe try some joint supplements too!

@Alston
Good call. I’ll definitely look into supplements. Thanks for the advice!

Anyone else had problems with pannus? My dog’s eyes have been looking cloudy lately, and I’m getting a bit worried. Is there anything I can do to help?

Yes, I’ve dealt with pannus before. The vet put my dog on eye meds, and we kept her out of direct sunlight. It’s manageable, but definitely need to stay on top of it.

@Riley
Thanks for the info! I’ll get her checked out ASAP. Hopefully, it’s not too serious.
