I’ve been thinking about getting a hypoallergenic dog, but I’m confused about which breeds are actually good for allergies. I heard some are better than others for people who suffer from allergies. Can anyone share which ones are the best? I’d love to know if anyone has experience with them!
Bichon Frises are amazing! They barely shed and are super playful. If you want a small hypoallergenic dog, Bichons are definitely a good choice.

Yeah, I’ve heard that! I was considering a Bichon but was worried about grooming. Is it a lot of work?
@Clove
It’s not too bad. Regular grooming every few weeks should do the trick. Just make sure to keep up with it so they stay hypoallergenic!
I got an Affenpinscher and they’re really good for people with allergies. They don’t shed often, and their fur takes a long time to grow back, so it gives you a break. Just don’t forget to brush them outside!
@Wray
Affenpinscher? I’ve never heard of that breed. What do they look like?

They’re pretty unique! Small, with a kind of rough and wiry coat. They look like little teddy bears. Definitely a cutie!
I’ve had a Poodle and they are the best for people with allergies. Poodles don’t shed and they’re super easy to train. Definitely a great hypoallergenic option!

Poodles are great! But I’ve heard about Doodles. Are they hypoallergenic too? I’ve been thinking about getting a Labradoodle.
@Rey
Well, it depends! Even though Poodles are hypoallergenic, Doodles can be a mix, so they might not be 100% hypoallergenic. You’d have to ask the breeder for more details about the specific puppy’s genetics.
I’ve always been curious about Basenjis. They’re known to be low-shedding, but do they still have a strong smell? Anyone here have one?

I had a Basenji for a while. They’re really independent and don’t smell much. But they are a bit hard to train. If you don’t mind the challenge, they’re great!
@Zuri
Thanks! Sounds like a fun but challenging dog. I’ll think about it!
Anyone have experience with the Portuguese Water Dog? I’ve read they don’t shed much but can be a bit more active. Any tips?

I’ve heard they’re awesome! They’re really loyal and energetic, so you’ll need to keep them active. They’re great for families though, just make sure to get them enough exercise!
