So I just read this guide on dog haircuts and honestly didn’t realize how many different styles there are There’s stuff like kennel cuts, teddy bear cuts, top knots… and each one kinda depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and even the weather. I used to think haircuts were just about looks, but they actually help with hygiene and keeping your pup comfy too. Anyone tried grooming their dog at home? Or do you always go to a pro?
I’ve been doing the neaten cut for my doodle. It’s minimal but makes such a difference lol. Less mess around the feet and rear for sure.

Wait what’s a neaten cut exactly?

Basically just trims around the face, feet, and butt. Keeps things clean without a full haircut.
My groomer did a teddy bear cut on my poodle mix and it’s sooo cute I didn’t even know that was a thing until recently.

How often do you have to get that redone? I heard curly coats need tons of brushing.
@Wes
Yeah for sure. I go every 6 weeks, but brushing like every other day is a must or it gets all tangled.
Top knot gang here My yorkie rocks it like a little diva lol. Keeps hair outta her eyes too which is the real reason.

LOL I tried a top knot and my dog ripped the band out in 2 secs. How do you make it stay??
@Zen
Lmao same at first. I use these tiny soft hair ties and a bit of patience. Sometimes it’s just not their vibe tho
Anyone else do summer cuts? I live in a super hot area and it really helps my husky mix chill out during the day.

Isn’t it risky to shave them though? I heard dogs still need some fur for sun protection.
@Bowie
Yeah for sure. I don’t fully shave, just a light trim. Vet told me to keep some fur to avoid sunburn.
Kennel cut has been my go-to. Simple, low maintenance, and pretty much every groomer knows how to do it.

Is that the one that’s like half an inch all over?
