So my cat stole a tiny piece of cheese off my plate the other day, and now she’s acting like she deserves a whole block lol. I know cheese isn’t toxic, but IDK if it’s actually good for them. Are there any types of cheese that are safer for cats? Or should I just say no altogether?
Cheese isn’t toxic, but most cats are lactose intolerant. It could mess with their stomach and cause vomiting or diarrhea.

Ahh gotcha. So basically, even if they like it, it’s probably not worth the risk?

Exactly! Some cats can handle a tiny bit, but most will end up with an upset stomach. I’d avoid it.
If you really wanna give them something cheesy, there are cat-friendly cheese treats out there. No lactose, so no tummy troubles!

Ohhh that’s smart. Do they taste like actual cheese, though? Or is it just a gimmick?

Lol, IDK, never tried one myself. But my cat loves them, so they must be decent.
If you HAVE to give them cheese, hard cheeses like cheddar are lower in lactose, so they might be easier to digest than soft ones like brie.

Good to know! So like, brie is a no-go?

Yeah, soft cheeses have way more lactose. Also, avoid anything with garlic or onions—those are toxic to cats.
Also, moldy cheeses like blue cheese are a no-go. The mold can be harmful to cats.

Dang, so basically, cheese is just a bad idea overall?

Pretty much. No real benefits, just potential tummy issues. Probably better to stick to cat treats.
