Can dogs eat avocado, is it safe?

I’ve heard mixed things about feeding avocado to dogs. Some say it’s fine in small amounts, while others warn about toxicity. I know the pit is dangerous, but what about just a little avocado flesh? Anyone here ever given it to their dog?

Yeah, dogs can eat small amounts of avocado flesh, but too much can cause vomiting or diarrhea.

Wait, so the flesh is fine but the skin and pit are bad?

Exactly! The skin, pit, leaves, and stem have more persin, which can be toxic.

Tbh, I’d rather not risk it. Avocados are high in fat too, which isn’t great for dogs prone to pancreatitis.

True, especially for smaller dogs. Their systems might not handle the fat well.

If you do give avocado, just a tiny amount of the soft inside part is best. No seasoning or extras!

Good call. Some people forget that even salt or spices can be harmful to dogs.

Anyone know other safe fat sources for dogs? I wanna give my pup something healthy for his coat.

Fish oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil, and olive oil are all good options!

I use fish oil for my dog. Helps with his coat and joints!

Btw, what exactly is persin? I keep seeing it mentioned.

It’s a toxin found in avocados. Dogs can handle small amounts, but too much can cause stomach issues or worse.
