Can dogs eat cranberries or should I avoid them?

I was snacking on some cranberries and almost gave one to my dog before I stopped to think… are they even safe for dogs? I know some fruits are super toxic, so I didn’t wanna take any risks. Has anyone looked into this?

Yeah, cranberries are safe for dogs in moderation. Just avoid the dried ones with added sugar or anything mixed with raisins or xylitol.

Wait, what’s xylitol?

It’s a sweetener that’s super toxic to dogs. Found in sugar-free stuff like gum and some peanut butters. Even a little can be dangerous.

I give my dog fresh cranberries sometimes, but she’s not a huge fan. They’re kinda sour lol.

Same! My pup spit it out the first time. I think they just don’t like the taste much.

I heard cranberries help with UTIs in dogs. Is that true?

There’s not much proof. People believe it helps, but studies don’t really back it up. If your dog has a UTI, better to see a vet.

What about cranberry juice? Can dogs drink that?

Not really a good idea. Most cranberry juice has a ton of added sugar, and some even have grape juice, which is toxic to dogs.

I give my dog cranberries mixed in her food sometimes. Just make sure they’re plain, no sugar or weird ingredients!

Good tip! I might try that. Do you cut them up first?

@Morgan
Yeah, especially for small dogs. Whole cranberries can be a choking hazard, so I chop them up just in case.
