Can dogs eat melon is it safe?

i was snacking on some cantaloupe, and my dog kept staring at me like he wanted a bite lol. i wasn’t sure if it was safe, so i looked it up… turns out dogs can eat cantaloupe, but only in moderation. anyone else give their dogs melon?

yep, my dog loves it! i just make sure to remove the rind and seeds first. apparently, the rind can carry bacteria like salmonella or listeria.

it’s a bacteria that can cause infections in both humans and animals. not super common, but still something to be careful about!

tbh, i had no idea dogs could eat cantaloupe. i always assumed fruit was bad for them lol.

yeah, some fruits are actually good for dogs! cantaloupe has fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins like A & C. just gotta give it in small amounts.

i give my pup a few small pieces on hot days… keeps him hydrated since cantaloupe is like 90% water.

good call! and it’s low-calorie too, so it won’t mess up their diet.

i heard that vets sometimes recommend cantaloupe for diabetic dogs since it has a low glycemic index. anyone know if that’s true?

yep, that’s true! but it still has sugar, so it’s best to check with a vet first.

btw, anyone’s dog ever had an allergic reaction to cantaloupe? mine got super itchy once, but idk if it was from that or something else.

hmm, dogs can have food sensitivities. did they have any other symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea?

nah, just itchiness. might have to test it again in a small amount.
