So, Thanksgiving is coming up, and I was wondering,can dogs eat turkey? I feel like I’ve seen mixed opinions on this. My pup is basically family, so I kinda wanna share a little, but I don’t wanna mess up his stomach or anything. Anyone know the do’s and don’ts?
Yeah, dogs can eat turkey, but it has to be plain and cooked—no bones, no seasoning, no skin. The skin has too much fat, and the bones can be a choking hazard.

Ahh gotcha, so basically no Thanksgiving-style turkey for my dog lol. Just plain meat?
@Keir
Exactly. No gravy, no spices, just plain turkey. Some dog foods actually have turkey in them, so it’s fine as long as it’s simple!
Tbh, I didn’t know dogs could eat turkey at all. I thought it was bad for them?

Nah, it’s safe as long as it’s plain. But stuff like onions, garlic, or gravy can be really bad for them.
@Teal
Ohhh makes sense. What about stuffing? Can they have that?

Nope, stuffing usually has onions and garlic in it, which are toxic for dogs. Better to avoid it.
If you wanna give your dog something extra, you can also add some veggies! Carrots and green beans are good for them.

Oh cool, I didn’t think about that. What about mashed potatoes?
@Keir
Only if they’re plain—no butter, no salt, no gravy. Most mashed potatoes have stuff in them that isn’t great for dogs.
Also, don’t forget—NO chocolate or desserts. Chocolate is super toxic for dogs, and even sugar substitutes can be dangerous.

Facts. I caught my dog trying to sneak some apple pie once. Had to stop him real quick lol.
@Ellis
Haha, same! My dog is a pro food thief. Just gotta keep an eye on them during the holidays.
Btw, seafood is safe too, right? Like, can I give my dog some shrimp or salmon?

Yeah, but it has to be cooked and plain. No shells, no seasoning, no raw fish. Some fish (like tuna) can have high mercury levels, so don’t overdo it.
@Teal
Gotcha. What about beans? My dog loves beans lol.
