Can't take care of my cat, any help?

I recently left an abusive relationship with my kids and I can’t look after my cat right now. I have no food for her and can’t prioritize her over my kids. I have just $10 until next week when I can get some emergency help from the government. Does anyone know a place where she can stay until I can provide for her properly? She won’t leave my car and I feel bad seeing her hungry. I want the best for her, but right now I can’t do much.

If you share your general location, people here can suggest rescue centers and places where you can get free cat food. That would be a good start.

If you own a pet, here’s a quick 5-minute survey on Pet Food Market. You can share your thoughts and experiences as a pet owner. Please fill it out to help your furry friend.

It depends on where you’re located. Some shelters may have programs for situations like this. There are also people who foster animals temporarily. You can search for such programs near you, or check with human shelters too as they might have useful info.

@Nico
Exactly. Some rescues will foster pets temporarily for people in need. It’s a great option if you can reunite with your pet later. Finding a foster for adult cats can be tough, but many people would happily take a cat knowing it will return home soon. Ask around, but your safety and your kids’ safety should be your priority.

I’m happy to hear that you and your kids are safe. Please reach out to https://safepetssafefamilies.org.au
They have a pet foster program and may be able to help. Most food banks can also assist with pet food.

@Ray
Also, many food banks and pantries can provide pet food, so that’s worth checking out.

Sorry you’re going through this. I don’t know of a place for the cat, but I’d be happy to send you some money for cat food until next week. Would that help?

I don’t think that’s possible since I’m in Australia, but I really appreciate your kindness. Thank you for caring :heart:

I see others trying to help, but they can’t due to your location. If you include your city in the original post, others might be able to offer resources specific to you and your cat’s needs.

Thank you, I’m in Australia.

Where in Australia are you? A nearby location could help us provide specific resources.

I’m in Adelaide :slight_smile:

I found foster placements for cats. You can check out this link: Contact | Safe Pets Safe Families

Not sure if they cover your area, as Australia is huge. Are you staying at a shelter?

Also, domestic abuse services might offer help with this too. I know how hard it is, but stay strong, things will improve.

@Ridley
I need someone to take her ASAP since I can’t feed her and was turned away from a shelter because I wanted to stay with my baby until I can find a safe place.

You can try a forum called Random Acts of Pet Food. They might help. You can also check food banks nearby—they often provide pet food too.

I’d be happy to send you cat food through Amazon or Walmart if that helps.

I don’t think that’s possible in Australia :frowning:

Actually, Amazon can deliver anywhere, even in Australia!

@Sky
I’ve sent a message, just waiting for a reply :slight_smile:
