Cat pee smell just won’t go away, any real fixes?

Okay sooo my cat had a little accident on the carpet like a week ago and I’ve tried everything… but the pee smell is STILL there. I’ve scrubbed it like 3 times and even used baking soda and vinegar. Kinda losing hope here lol. Anyone got tricks that actually work? Or maybe I’m missing something basic?

You gotta try enzyme cleaners. The vinegar/baking soda thing helps but enzymes actually break down the pee on a molecular level.

Wait what do you mean ‘enzymes’? Like special cleaning sprays?

@Oaklee
Yeah, pet-specific ones from pet stores or online. They’re made to target the stuff in cat pee that causes the smell.

@Oaklee
Fr, enzyme stuff saved my couch :joy: regular cleaners just weren’t doing it for me.

Also FYI—if your cat keeps peeing in the same spot, it could be cuz the smell’s still lingering and drawing them back.

Damn that explains so much… my cat hit the same corner twice and I was so confused.

Same, thought mine was being spiteful or something lol but I guess the smell’s kinda inviting for them.

Anyone try steam cleaning before? I was about to rent one but now IDK.

Nah don’t do it. Hot water or steam can actually bake the smell into the carpet. Learned that the hard way :weary:

Yeah cold rinse is better. I used a wet vac with cool water and it helped a bunch before using enzyme spray.

Also might be worth checking the litter box sitch. Dirty boxes or not enough of them can cause potty rebellion :sweat_smile:

Omg I have 3 cats and 2 boxes… I didn’t know the rule is one per cat plus one extra. That’s wild.

@Fielder
Yeah and try spreading them out too. Territorial vibes are real in multi-cat homes.

I switched to unscented litter and it helped too. I think my cat hated the perfumey stuff.

If it’s happening often, maybe a vet check is in order? Could be medical like a UTI or something.

Yeah mine had a kidney thing going on and started peeing everywhere. Vet figured it out fast tho.

Good call. Sometimes it’s not behavioral at all, just health stuff.
