Cat peeing small amounts after catheter was removed, what should I do?

My cat had a catheter in for a week. It was a bit bent and caused some bleeding, so he’s been on meds to stop bleeding and break down stones. He’s acting normal and pooped fine yesterday, but he’s only peeing a little bit at a time and not very often. His bladder feels a bit full. The catheter was just removed yesterday, and I’m really stressed that he could get blocked again.

You should call the vet right away and take him back to the clinic. If they’re not open, head to an emergency vet. Peeing small amounts like this could mean the stones are still a problem. If he can’t fully empty his bladder, it might lead to bigger issues, like his bladder bursting. Cats can go downhill fast, so don’t wait.

@Harper
Thanks for your concern. I took him for an ultrasound, and it’s just some inflammation from the catheter removal. The vet said it should go away with meds. He’s started peeing more frequently now and in larger amounts, so things are looking better.

Why would you ask this here instead of calling the vet who did the procedure? I don’t get it. What’s your reason for posting this on the forum instead of immediately contacting the vet?

A lot of people post personal stuff online these days, even about their pets. I don’t do it myself, but it’s just how things are now. People are used to sharing their problems with strangers online.

@Lian
I get venting online, but asking for medical advice from strangers? That’s just not smart. You should only trust professionals for this kind of thing.

@Lian
I posted in distress, but I didn’t take the advice here as a replacement for professional care. I already went to multiple vets, and he’s doing fine now.

I did call the vet before posting. They said he needed an ultrasound, so I’m getting that done. I wasn’t ignoring professional advice. I just wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences.

@Teegan
You don’t get a second opinion from a forum. If you need more input, talk to another vet, not random people online.

I already talked to two other vets, and they gave different opinions. I guess I posted here out of desperation. Anyway, have a good day.

@Teegan
So now you’re trusting what strangers online say about your cat? Just stick to the vets for this. They’re the experts.

I didn’t trust random advice here. I’ve already spoken to multiple vets and took him in. This post was out of worry and stress, not to replace real medical advice.

@Teegan
And just to clarify, I didn’t just call. I took him to the vet in person.

@Teegan
I don’t mean to sound rude, but it frustrates me when people look for medical advice here. Your pet’s health is serious, and the vet should always be the first and only source.

Understood.

This is definitely something to discuss with the vet.

After a catheter, it’s common for cats to pee smaller amounts while adjusting. If he’s acting normal and doesn’t seem in pain, that’s a good sign. But if this continues or he seems uncomfortable, reach out to the vet.

You should report this to the vet who treated your cat. They’ll let you know if it’s an emergency or just part of the recovery. The forum can’t replace professional help.

I am in touch with the vet. They didn’t give a clear answer, so I’m getting an ultrasound done.

My cat went through the same thing but eventually got better. Try to stay patient.
