Do Goldendoodles Shed a Lot?

So, I’ve been thinking about getting a Goldendoodle and was wondering… do they shed a lot? I know Poodles don’t shed much, but Golden Retrievers are pretty famous for leaving fur everywhere. Is it the same with Goldendoodles, or is it a little less? Any Goldendoodle owners out there who can share their experience? FYI, I’ve heard some have curly or wavy hair, while others can have straight hair depending on their genes. Do straight-haired ones shed more?

Yeah, Goldendoodles do shed, but honestly, not as much as a Golden Retriever. It really depends on the type of coat they have. My F1B doesn’t shed at all, but I’ve heard F1 ones shed a bit more.

Wait, what’s an F1B? I’ve never heard that term before :joy:

@Brook
LOL, F1B is a mix of an F1 Goldendoodle and a Poodle. So, it’s like 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever. That’s why they shed less.

Ohh, that’s good to know. I didn’t realize the straight hair would make a difference. My friend’s Goldendoodle has wavy hair, and I barely see any fur around.

I have an F1 mix, and she sheds a little, especially during the warmer months. It’s not terrible though, I just have to clean up more often.

Good to know! I guess I should expect some shedding but not too much if I get one with curly or wavy hair.

As far as maintenance goes, I brush my Goldendoodle every other day since she has curly hair. It really helps with the shedding and keeps her coat shiny.

Nice! I was wondering how often I’d need to brush. Sounds like brushing often is key, especially with curly hair.

Just to add, Goldendoodles can sometimes have joint problems, so it’s important to keep an eye on their health too. Like any breed, they can be prone to certain issues.
