Do pet insurance premiums really go up as pets age?
Since companies don’t have to explain why premiums increase, it’s hard to say for sure. But from what I’ve heard, it seems like premiums typically rise during the life of the policy. Sometimes the increases are significant, while other times they’re more gradual. Personally, I noticed my premiums shot up after my pets turned 10. It might be for various reasons, but it’s strange that they both increased around the same time.
Yes, they do. Thought you should know
Trupanion claims they don’t raise premiums, but some folks think they do and just attribute it to the rising cost of healthcare in the area.
Healthy Paws mentions the same thing @Flippa said
My premium with Healthy Paws has jumped from 88 to 109 and now it’s at 170 over the last three years. I just saw the latest increase, and I’m shocked. My dog is healthy and 9 years old with no medical issues.
I’m paying $390 for my 14-year-old pup, and I worry that canceling the insurance might bring bad luck.
I had similar worries, but I decided to cancel yesterday. Instead, I’m going to save $100 a month just in case. It was a tough choice because Healthy Paws was great to work with, easy to file claims, and the customer service was always friendly. But I figured every time I made a claim, celebrated a birthday, or renewed the policy, my premiums would keep going up. $170 a month is a lot, let alone $390.
