So, I’ve got this adorable Pomeranian, and I’ve been wondering… do they shed a lot? I mean, I love how fluffy they are, but man, there’s hair everywhere. I read somewhere that they shed in different phases, like puppy shedding, seasonal shedding, and hormonal shedding after giving birth… Anyone else’s Pom shedding like crazy? Also, is it normal if they lose hair in clumps? I’m kinda freaking out a little.
LOL, my Pomeranian sheds like a little cotton factory! The seasonal shedding is real, especially in spring and fall. It helps them adjust to the temp. And yeah, the ‘puppy uglies’ phase is a trip – they look so funny with patches missing, but it’s all good. Your Pom’s probably just going through the normal phases.
@Lyle
My Pom went through that too! She looked kinda hilarious with hair coming out in patches, but it’s totally normal. I’ve noticed she sheds more after giving birth… guess it’s all the hormones.
@Lyle
Same here! I almost freaked out when I first saw the clumps, but turns out it was just part of the process. Just keep brushing, and it’ll help tons!
My Pom barely sheds, tbh. But he’s not a purebred, he’s a Pomapoo (Pomeranian + Poodle), so I think that’s why. If you want less shedding, maybe check them out. They still shed but way less!

Pomapoo?! That sounds interesting. Do they still have that fluffy Pomeranian look or more like the Poodle? I’m curious how they look!

Pomapoo sounds awesome, but I think I’ll stick with my Pom. The shedding is just part of the deal, I guess.
I’ve had my Pom for a year, and I’ve been dealing with shedding since the ‘puppy uglies.’ It gets better after 12-14 months though, once their adult coat fully comes in. Just make sure to brush them daily or it gets out of hand! Trust me, it helps.
@Andi
I’m at that stage too! My Pom’s 7 months, and I’m already seeing some fur fall out. Good to know it’ll get better. I’ll just keep brushing away.
@Andi
Yeah, the brushing thing is key! I’ve got a slicker brush, and it’s been a lifesaver for keeping the fur in check.
Just FYI, if you notice clumps of hair randomly missing, that could be a health issue. My vet said it could be allergies or thyroid problems. If it’s happening a lot, maybe get a check-up.

Yikes, thanks for the heads-up! I’ve been noticing some bald patches on my Pom recently. I’ll make an appointment with the vet, just in case.

Yeah, I was worried too, but luckily it was just normal shedding for my Pom. Still, always better to be safe and check with a vet.
Oh man, I had no idea that they shed so much after giving birth. My friend’s Pom did the same thing. It was a whole lot of fur coming out! Just be ready for a bit of a mess during that time.

It’s so true! I didn’t expect it to be this much fur everywhere. It’s like having a tiny, fluffy tornado in your house.

Lmao, fluffy tornado is the perfect way to describe it! My house looks like it’s snowing fur every day.
