Does any pet insurance cover the costs for a lipoma biopsy? What about for cats?
From what I understand, if a vet considers it medically necessary, most pet insurance plans will cover a lipoma biopsy. Just keep in mind it can’t be a pre-existing condition for coverage to apply.
So, pre-existing just means something that wasn’t noted in the medical records, right? Like if I get my pet insurance and then discover a few weeks later that it’s a condition that could be covered?
It really depends on what’s documented in the vet records. Vets usually write down their observations and what they suspect. Since lipomas don’t show up overnight, it would likely be clear if one was pre-existing. Plus, being honest with the vet about when you first noticed it matters, as how quickly it grows can affect the diagnosis
Exactly, pre-existing means any signs, symptoms, or diagnoses. You might be tempted to hide it, but as Unclewaffl3s mentioned, the vet will probably note things like the mass’s size or any other signs that indicate it existed before you got the insurance. Insurers are also aware that people might “discover” new conditions after the waiting period and will examine those claims very carefully
It’s a yes and no situation. If there are indications that suggest the condition existed prior to the policy, then it’ll be classified as pre-existing. But if there were no symptoms until after your insurance kicked in, then it shouldn’t be considered pre-existing. And just a heads-up, trying to trick the insurance could get you into legal trouble
If it’s not pre-existing, then yes, it should be covered. Your pet insurance usually has a pre-approval process. You submit an estimate, and they’ll let you know if it’s approved or not
