So I just read that dogs aren’t actually colorblind like people say… turns out they see blue and yellow pretty well, but not red or green . Kinda wild to think how different their world looks. Anyone else heard about this? Also curious if that’s why my dog always ignores the red toys lol.
Yeah I read that too. Dogs are dichromatic or something, right? Like they’ve got two cones instead of three like us.

Wait what’s a cone?

Haha yeah sorry – cones are the cells in the eye that detect color. Dogs only have 2 types, so they can’t really see reds and greens.

Yeah and humans have 3 cones, so we get more color range. Dogs just see less but they’re way better at seeing in the dark.
This makes so much sense… I bought my dog a red ball and he never plays with it gonna try a blue one next.

Lol same here! Mine just ignores anything red or green. Yellow toys are the MVPs in our house
Also apparently their eyes are built totally different from ours? Like they’ve got more rods so they see movement better in low light.

Yup! And they have this thing called a tapetum that helps with night vision. Kinda like built-in night goggles lol.

Broooo I never knew that. So dogs can basically spot stuff moving in the dark better than we can?
Someone told me dogs were straight up colorblind… glad that myth got busted. They just see less colors, not none.

Exactly! It’s not like they see black and white – they just can’t see the full rainbow like us. More like red-green colorblind folks.
So like… can dogs see pink? I’ve got this pink plush my pup drags around but not sure if he sees it the way I do

Pink’s basically light red, right? So to dogs it probably just looks like beige or a pale brown or something.

That explains why my dog doesn’t care about the pink toy but loses his mind over anything blue or yellow lol.
