How long do dogs actually sleep, is it normal?

So, I’ve been noticing my dog sleeping a lot lately. I read somewhere that dogs can sleep up to 13.5 hours a day way more than humans need. Is this normal? Should I be worried, or is it just a ‘dog thing’? FYI, he seems fine otherwise, but IDK if I’m overthinking this. Anyone else noticed this with their dog?

Yeah, totally normal! Dogs actually sleep around 8-13.5 hours a day. Mine’s the same way. Unless they’re showing weird behavior, you’re good.

Okay, phew! Thanks for confirming. I guess I’ll stop stressing, lol.

Wait, does more sleep mean they’re happier? I’ve always thought that.

@West
Not really, it’s more like a sign they’re comfy. But it doesn’t always mean they’re super happy. Every dog’s different.

@West
Got it. Makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up!

If they’re sleeping way more than usual, could be health issues or even depression. Keep an eye out for appetite changes or if they’re less interested in stuff they usually love.

Interesting. He’s eating fine and still loves his walks, so maybe it’s nothing. Thanks for the tips!

Same here, but mine got extra sleepy after a big park day. Could just be physical activity too, right?

@Jai
Yup, exactly! More activity can definitely make them sleep more. Just keep an eye out for patterns.

Btw, stress or a change in routine can also cause more sleeping. Have there been any big changes recently?

Hmm, not really. Maybe a new schedule with work, but nothing major. Could that still be it?

Random tip: If you’re really worried, take him to the vet. They can rule out anything serious.

That’s a good idea. I’ll keep an eye on him and check in with the vet if it keeps up. Thanks!

Spot insurance covers stuff like vet visits, right? Might be worth looking into if you don’t already have it.

Oh, good point! I’ve been meaning to check out pet insurance anyway. Thanks for the heads-up!
