Okay so my cat’s been acting super weird the past couple days, meowing like crazy, rolling all over the place, and just being suuuper clingy. Turns out she’s in heat . I had NO idea this could last more than a few days. How long do y’all usually see this go on? And is there anything I can do to help her calm down a bit? I’m not ready for a whole litter of kittens lol.
Yeahhh that sounds like heat behavior for sure. Most cats stay in heat like 4 to 10 days, sometimes longer. It happens every few weeks too… it’s a whole thing

Every few weeks?? omg I didn’t know it was that often. This is gonna be exhausting lol
@Denny
Yup, pretty much every 3 weeks unless she mates. From Jan to late fall too. It’s wild
You should def think about getting her spayed if you’re not planning to breed. That’s like… the only way to stop this long term.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about that now. Didn’t realize it could prevent all this. Is there a good age to do it?
@Milan
Best to do it before 5 months old, but it’s still okay even if she’s older. Some vets spay as early as 8 weeks.
Catnip helped my girl chill for a bit when she was in heat. Doesn’t last long tho, maybe like 10 mins tops

Wait so catnip makes them calm? I thought it made them more hyper lol
@Amar
Depends on the cat. Like 70–80% react to it, but it can either chill them out or hype them up lol. You gotta test it first.
Alsoooo… clean that litterbox DAILY. Mine started peeing on my couch when it wasn’t spotless during heat

Oof yeah I noticed she was spraying a bit. I’ll stay on top of the box now, thanks!
Try giving her a warm towel or heat pad to lie on. Helped mine a LOT. She’d curl up and chill for a bit.

Awww that’s cute. I’ll try that. Do you use an electric one or just microwave a towel?
@Westley
I use a microwave heat pack wrapped in a towel. Works great and no wires around.
