Hey everyone, I’m looking into pet insurance for my 4 dogs and 3 cats since I just moved to Canada. I’m used to US pet insurance, but I’m not sure how things work here. What’s the best pet insurance in Canada, and is it even worth it? I’ve got a huge pet family now, so keeping costs low would be great. Any thoughts or experiences with companies like Fetch, Furkin, Trupanion, or any others would be super helpful.
Thanks for all the helpful responses, everyone! After spending a ton of time researching, I used a Canada-specific site to compare policies. I got several quotes and ended up choosing the most affordable option for my 4 dogs (I left the cats out for now to save a bit of money).
It’s awesome you found a solution! I’m glad the research paid off. Best of luck with your dogs!
Thanks! Hopefully, I’ll never have to use it, but I figured I’d keep everyone updated on how it’s going.
I’m not from Canada, but Fetch could be a good option for you. It was interesting to see that many Canadian pet insurance companies are owned by Pet Line, which is kinda wild.
Yeah, I’m not too thrilled with Pet Line and their brands. But I recently came across Pets Plus Us, and it looks pretty promising.
I wish I knew more about Canadian pet insurance! It sounds like Pet Line is basically the Canadian version of JAB Holdings, which owns a ton of companies here in the US too. Wild stuff.
It’s crazy how these big companies take over and kill competition. Do you have any thoughts on Fetch vs. Trupanion? I’m looking at major costs for 7 pets, so any advice would be appreciated .
Wow, that’s a lot of furry friends! Sounds like a fun (and busy) house. As a vet tech here in the US, I’ve had a good experience with Trupanion. They’re pricier, but they work really smoothly with in-network vets. Fetch and Spot are also good options, though, and I’ve heard ASPCA is pretty solid too. Let me know how your search goes!
Holy cow, you weren’t kidding about Trupanion’s prices. I just got a quote for my lab at $416/month and my Frenchie is over $600. No way I can afford that for 7 pets. I also checked Des Jardins, but they seem to be underwritten by Pet Line too, and their plan only offers $2,000 in benefits. Same thing happened with Peppermint and OVMA, they all use the same forms and have similar low payouts. It’s crazy how one company dominates the market. As a vet tech, do you have any recommendations besides Trupanion?
Yeah, Trupanion’s definitely on the pricey side. In my clinic, we usually recommend them, but if you need a more affordable option, I’d suggest focusing on insuring your dogs over the cats. Dogs are generally more likely to need it. Fetch or Spot could be good choices for you, but it looks like you’re doing all the right research. You’ll find something that fits your needs!
Thanks for all the advice. From what I’ve seen, Trupanion is definitely off the table, but Fetch seems promising, especially for my accident-prone dogs. I’ll keep digging.
