Hey everyone, I’m thinking about getting pet insurance for my 9-year-old dog. He seems healthy, but I want to be cautious since he’s getting older. I’ve been looking at SPOT Pet Insurance but I’m unsure how it all works. Since he’s gone without insurance for this long, if I wait another year, will the annual limit stay the same, or will it carry over? I hope that makes sense
That’s a great question Charlotte. I’ve had SPOT for a while, and from my experience, the limit resets each year. Just a heads up, the unlimited coverage isn’t actually unlimited, but it should cover most treatments you might need
Thanks Dolph! I appreciate the info. @Flippa , what about you? Have you considered getting pet insurance?
Yes, I actually got insurance for my 1-year-old dog with SPOT too. It was a smart decision for me, as I found a plan that fits my budget and my dog’s needs
That sounds good Flippa. @Glock , can you explain how the annual limit works?
Sure Charlotte. The annual limit is the maximum amount the insurance will pay for the year. For instance, if your limit is $10,000, that’s the max you’ll get reimbursed. If you don’t reach that amount, it doesn’t carry over to the next year
Got it, thanks Glock! @DolphGabbana , do you think I should take my dog to the vet for a wellness check before signing up for insurance? SPOT has this premium package, but I’m hesitant about paying extra if he doesn’t need it
It really depends on your situation Charlotte. Some pet owners wait until they get insurance and let the waiting period pass. That way, if the vet finds any issues, it won’t be labeled as a pre-existing condition
That makes sense. @KeyGlock , what about you? Are you in a similar situation?
Yeah, I’m facing the same choices as you. It’s a tough decision
Do you have any recommendations, @FrankMathews? I’ve seen good reviews for SPOT and wouldn’t mind paying around $100 a month
I’m considering SPOT for a puppy we’re getting. For your older dog, if the premiums are reasonable, it’s probably worth it, especially if he’s a breed that tends to have health issues as they age
Thanks for the insight FrankMathews. @BugsBunny , do you have any thoughts on this?
I’d say it’s best to get insurance now before your dog has any issues. Otherwise, they might label them as pre-existing conditions and not cover them later. As for rollover, it usually doesn’t carry over
That’s good advice, BugsBunny. @Luciano , what’s your experience with pet insurance?
I got insurance when my puppy was about 5 months old. Unfortunately, she had an ear infection before signing up, so it isn’t covered as it’s considered pre-existing. But if any issues show up later, like hip dysplasia, she’ll be covered
That’s helpful to know, Luciano. @RayCharles , how has your experience been?
Honestly, I think pet insurance can be a scam. They often don’t pay out more than what you put in, making it a lose-lose situation
Thanks everyone for your insights. It’s great to hear different perspectives on pet insurance.
