Thinking about microchipping my dog but IDK if it’s necessary. I mean, he’s always indoors, but what if he gets lost? Also, does it hurt them? Anyone got experience with this?
Yeah, it’s worth it. Microchips help reunite lost pets with their owners. A collar can fall off, but a chip stays forever.

That makes sense… but do they actually work? Like how does the chip help find the pet?
@Kade
It’s not GPS, but if someone finds your pet and takes them to a vet or shelter, they can scan the chip and contact you.
@Kade
Exactly! But you gotta register the chip and keep your info updated, otherwise it’s useless.
It’s a super quick and simple procedure. Vet just injects a tiny chip under their skin, like a vaccine shot. My cat didn’t even flinch.

Okay, so it doesn’t hurt them? Was worried about that.
@Kade
Nah, not really! It’s the same as any shot. Some pets might react a little, but it’s over in seconds.
One time my dog ran off during a storm… we got reunited because of his microchip. Without it, IDK what I would’ve done.

Wow, that’s scary. How long was he gone?

Like two days! Someone found him and took him to a vet, they scanned his chip and called me. Best decision ever to get it.
Just make sure to register the chip after you get it done. So many people forget, and then it’s useless.

Wait, what do you mean register it?

You have to give your contact info to the microchip company so they can reach you if your pet is found. Also, update it if you move.
Some pet insurance plans cover microchipping. Might be worth checking before you pay out of pocket.

Oh, I didn’t know that. Do you know which ones?
