So i was walking and this one dog came running to me, I was wearing pants covering my legs and it started to bite me but not so hard that it would cause me wounds, after a while someone shooed it away.
But then later I was feeling there were scratch marks and sure enough there were. Should I go get checked out by a doctor still or what do I do?
Get checked out, rabies is 100% lethal once you have symptoms, so you will want to talk about the rabies risk with a doctor, and yes, notify animal control. An unprovoked attack is very very bad. You could have been a kid.
If it broke the skin, you need to see a doctor. If you are in a country with rabies, you will likely need to start rabies prophylaxis.

no the skin is intact, there’s just redness around the area and itching for now
@Sam
Definitely go see a doctor, just to be safe.

Definitely get checked out.
@Sam
That is early infection signs, I would go.
@Sam
You don’t want to mess with even the possibility of rabies, if you’re even in the ROOM with a bat you’re advised to get shots.
Just go
You should I mean you must. Get treatment as soon as possible even if it is a little bite mark(scratches). don’t take risk
Rabies isn’t the only thing to worry about, the dog could have something else that could cause an infection that you don’t want to get. If I were you, I’d go to the ER to see if they recommend any treatment.
See a Dr or urgent care ASAP. If the “scratch” is just red and itchy. It can still be microscopic skin break you can’t see. Rabies is FATAL once symptoms start. Avoid rabies at all costs!
Are your pants intact at the point of contact? If yes, just wash the affected area with soap and water. Some of these comments are just ridiculous.
That’s up to you. If you feel it warrants a doctor visit, then go to the doctor. I’d probably also file a report with animal control about the incident. Just in case it wasn’t the only incident experienced by the same dog matching description.
@Jesse
Problem with a “dr visit” is an appointment could take weeks to get. ER is the only place and they have the shots needed
I would just clean with soap then pour disinfectant over it. You should be ok as it didn’t break the skin much
Hope you rushed to the ER and got your rabies shots treatment.
If you live in the US, do not get a $500+ er bill over this, especially if it didn’t even break skin

He has some broken skin.
Go and get checked out by a Dr
Dog bites can be very dangerous, even if you don’t think rabies is a possibility have it assessed
Oh man. ER not anything else. Any kind of broken skin, not knowing dogs vaccines you have to have it checked out and rabies addressed. Husband’s friend just went through this. He shot the dog to stop the attack.
