Thinking about getting a Dogo Argentino, any advice?

I’ve been reading up on the Dogo Argentino, and they sound like incredible dogs, loyal, strong, and super smart. But I also saw they can have a high prey drive and need lots of training. Anyone here own one? What’s it like living with them?

Yeah, I have one! They’re amazing but definitely not for first-time dog owners. You gotta be consistent with training, and socialization is huge.

When you say socialization, do you mean like getting them used to other dogs and people early on?

@Nyle
Exactly! If they don’t meet different people and animals early, they can get too protective. Mine was a little reactive at first, but training helped a lot.

I read they’re banned in some places. Why is that?

Yeah, some countries banned them because of concerns about aggression. They need a responsible owner who trains them well.

Are they good with kids? I have a toddler and don’t wanna take any risks.

They can be! They’re super loyal to their families, but because they’re big and strong, you gotta supervise them around small kids.

Do they need a lot of exercise? I live in an apartment but could do long walks daily.

Yeah, they’re super energetic. Walks are good, but they also need runs or something more intense to stay happy.

Is grooming easy with them? Or do they shed a lot?

Their coat is short, so grooming is pretty low-maintenance. Just gotta do regular nail trims, ear cleaning, and brushing.
