Thinking of getting a big dog, any advice?

I’ve been thinking about getting a large dog breed, but IDK what I’m really getting into tbh. I know they need more space and exercise, but are they really that hard to take care of? Also, how expensive are we talking when it comes to food and training? I’ve been looking at breeds like Great Danes and Bernese Mountain Dogs… they look so chill. Just wondering if anyone here has experience with big dogs and can share what it’s really like day to day?

I’ve had a Great Dane before… super sweet dog, but yeah they eat A LOT lol. Like prepare your wallet :joy:

The tallest one was 44 inches at the shoulder… that’s like… taller than most adults when it stands on hind legs :flushed:

I’ve got an Irish Wolfhound and they’re actually super chill with kids. Just need to run a lot lol

Yep! But now they’re like giant friendly donkeys :joy: Tall as one too, around 35 inches average

FYI, Saint Bernards are also a great option if you want a family-friendly big dog. Super loving but BIG personalities (and weight lol)

Haha I’ve seen one that weighed 180 lbs… like how do you even walk that??

@Lane
Strong leash, patience, and snacks :joy: They’re total sweethearts tho

If you’re in a cold area, Bernese Mountain Dogs are perf. They’ve got thick coats and love kids. Mine’s like a nanny dog :sob:

Yeah, like they’re more quiet types. They don’t bark much but will roll up on a threat real lowkey :sweat_smile:

Anyone tried Leonbergers? I heard they were like royalty dogs lol
