What are the insurance options for pets with ectopic ureters?

What insurance options are available for pets diagnosed with ectopic ureters? This is Daisy, our 4-month-old springer that a family friend gave to my wife and me. She loves going fishing with me and my friends

My wife and I wanted to do the right thing, so we got her insured (Trupanion) on the same day we brought her home

However, shortly after getting her, we noticed she was leaking urine more than usual. Like any responsible pet owners, we took her to the vet for an evaluation. They initially treated her for a UTI, but the medication didn’t help at all

After several vet visits, different medications, and ultrasounds, we’ve spent nearly $2,000 without seeing any improvement. Unfortunately, the insurance won’t cover these expenses because the UTI treatment at her first vet visit was deemed a pre-existing condition

We were then referred to a specialist for a CT scan to confirm the vet’s suspicion of her having an ectopic ureter. The specialist quoted us $2,000 to $3,000 just for the CT scan diagnosis. If she does have an ectopic ureter, the surgery could cost between $5,000 and $7,000. We simply can’t afford that, and the insurance won’t cover any of it. So, we’re raising funds for her diagnosis, which is going fairly well. I’ve also heard about grants that could help cover the surgery costs

Does anyone have any information about these grants? Are they a viable option? Any details would be greatly appreciated?
