The wildfires in California are really bad right now. If you’re in an evacuation zone, it’s super important to know where to go and what resources are available. I just found this list of shelters and animal care centers in case anyone needs it. There are shelters for people and ones for small animals or large pets like horses. It’s also a good idea to check out Pasadena Humane if you can temporarily foster pets. Anyone here have any other resources or tips for people in this situation?
Thanks for sharing this! It’s super helpful. I’ve been hearing that the fire’s spreading fast. Is there a specific area that’s worse than others right now?

Yeah, Malibu, Santa Monica, and western LA are the worst right now. Evacuation orders are in effect for parts of Malibu. Topanga is on an evacuation warning. It’s a mess out there.
What do you mean by evacuation warning? I thought it was only evacuations that were serious.

Good question! Evacuation warnings mean there’s a potential threat to life and property. You don’t have to leave immediately, but it’s a good idea to start preparing, especially if you have pets.
Anyone know where to take a large pet like a horse? I’ve got a couple of horses and need to figure out where to go.

The LA Equestrian Center and Pomona Fairplex are accepting horses right now. Make sure to check if they have room, though.

Also, Castaic and Lancaster are taking large animals. Those places are a bit out of the fire threat areas, so it’s safer.
Anyone know what to do if I find a lost pet in my area? I’m worried about displaced animals in these conditions.

If you find a pet, take them to a shelter outside the fire zones, like San Gabriel Valley Humane Society or Stray Paws Animal Haven. They’ll make sure they get back home.
Is anyone able to foster a pet right now? I know a lot of shelters are asking for help due to all the displaced animals.

Yeah, Pasadena Humane is looking for fosters. If you can help, reach out to them. They’re especially looking for families outside the fire zones.
