So I’ve been thinking about putting together an emergency kit for my dog, just in case. I know food, water, and meds are a must, but what else should I include? Do I need to keep documents in there too? Any tips from people who have one ready?
Yeah, definitely include your pet’s vaccination records and emergency contacts. You never know when you’ll need them.

Oh, good call! I hadn’t thought about documents. Where do you usually keep them?

I keep mine in a waterproof bag inside the kit. That way, if I ever need to grab it fast, everything’s in one place.
Don’t forget an ID tag and a leash! If your pet gets lost during an emergency, that can help a lot.

For sure! I have a microchip too, but I guess an ID tag is easier if someone finds him.

Exactly! Also, make sure your microchip info is up-to-date. A lot of people forget to update their contact info.
You might want to throw in some comfort items—like a toy or blanket. Pets can get stressed in unfamiliar places.

That’s a great idea! Do you think a blanket with my scent on it would help?

Yeah, totally! It can make them feel safer in a new environment.
Also, make sure you have a backup person who can take care of your pet if something happens to you.

Oof, I hadn’t thought of that. I guess I should talk to a family member about it?

Yeah, someone you trust. Maybe a friend or neighbor too, in case your family isn’t close by.

Oh yeah, I’ve been meaning to look into that. Any recommendations?

Depends on your pet and budget, but there are policies that cover emergencies specifically!
