I just took out a Trupanion insurance plan today, and I’ve got an appointment on Monday with a neurologist for my dog. He’s been limping and dragging his back leg, and they found arthritis. Now, my regular vet thinks it might be something neurological. I’m wondering if anything they find on Monday will be considered a pre-existing condition? I know the arthritis probably will be, but I’m unsure about the rest.
This would all likely be considered pre-existing. Most insurance plans have a waiting period, usually between 3 to 14 days. If you’ve already mentioned these symptoms to your regular vet, it’s going to be in the records, and when you try to file claims later, they might be denied.
Yeah, unfortunately, all of this will be seen as pre-existing, and since it’s already been documented, the insurance company will probably catch it. Also, most likely, it falls under the waiting period anyway, Trupanion has 5 days for injuries and 30 days for illnesses. If any claim relates to limping or weakness, especially involving his back leg, it will probably be denied. I really hope your dog feels better soon!
