When do cats stop growing, mine's still getting bigger at 1 year?

Hey y’all, so my cat just hit 12 months and she’s still growing a bit? I thought they stopped at 1 year but now I’m not sure. She’s not like a huge breed or anything, just a regular cat. IDK if this is normal or if I should be worried lol. Anyone know when cats usually stop growing for real?

Mine kept growing until like 18 months. Vet said it’s pretty normal, especially for males or bigger breeds.

Wait really? I always thought 1 year was the end of it. What kinda breed do you have?

@Yan
He’s a Maine coon mix I think, so maybe that’s why. Bigger breeds can take up to 2-3 years to fully grow.

@Yan
Ahh gotcha. Mine’s just a small mixed kitty, so maybe she’s just slow finishing up :person_shrugging:

I read somewhere that 12 months is like the teen phase for cats, and full grown is more like 18 months. Think of 1 yr as like a 15 y/o human lol.

Ohh that makes more sense. So cats at 18 months are like 21 in human years?

@Remi
Yep exactly! After that, they’re pretty much done growing unless they’re putting on weight from food :sweat_smile:

FYI, spaying/neutering can also affect growth. If it’s done too early, especially in males, it can mess with hormone stuff.

Really? I spayed my guy at like 4 months. Is that too early?

@Sky
Some vets say wait till 6-12 months, esp for males. Early neuter can mess with growth & urinary stuff. Best to ask your vet tho.

Breed matters too. Like Siamese stop growing faster, but Maine coons grow way longer. So depends on the type.

Yeah she’s not a fancy breed or anything, just a mix. Still, helpful to know size can depend on that!

Tbh every cat’s diff. Some just take their sweet time growing. My vet said not to stress unless there’s a big weight gain or loss.

Same here. Mine grew slow but steady. Vet said it’s chill unless they suddenly pack on pounds.

What’s considered ‘too much’ weight tho?

@Yan
Vet told me like 8-14 lbs is normal range, but depends on gender and breed too. If it’s outta that range, time for a vet check.
