I’ve been noticing my cat keeps kneading my lap, and I’m just curious why they do it. I heard it’s a way for them to feel comfortable, but why do they do it on soft surfaces, like blankets or even me? Anyone else’s cat do this?
I think it’s a sign of comfort! My cat always kneads my lap when she’s relaxed. I read somewhere it’s linked to them feeling secure and loved.

That makes sense! I thought it was just a weird cat thing . Guess it’s a compliment though!

Totally, it’s a good sign! If they purr while doing it, you know they’re really happy.
I’ve read it might be their way of marking territory too. Like how dogs circle before lying down, cats might knead to make things comfy and claim it.

Ohh, I didn’t think of that! So it’s kinda like their way of setting up their space?

Yeah, exactly! They have scent glands on their paws, so they might be marking their area without us even realizing it.
I noticed my cat does this a lot when she’s anxious or stressed. Maybe it’s like a self-soothing thing for them?

That makes sense! My cat does it when we’re sitting down to relax after a busy day, so maybe it helps her calm down.

Yeah, it’s like their way of unwinding. I’ve also noticed she does it more when she’s feeling skittish.
If your cat’s kneading a lot more than usual, it could also mean they’re in heat or just excited about mating.

Oh wow, I didn’t think of that! My cat’s spayed, but I’ll keep an eye out if it gets weird.

Yeah, just something to consider. If it changes, it’s always good to check with the vet.
I heard kneading might also be because they were separated from their moms too early, which makes them do it for comfort as adults.

Interesting! I adopted my cat, so maybe that’s why she does it so much. It’s cute but kinda odd too, lol.

Yep, it’s definitely a comforting behavior for them. Don’t worry, it’s totally normal!
