Anyone tried Rainwalk pet insurance?

Has anyone here used Rainwalk pet insurance before? My shelter recommended it, and the price seems pretty low, but I want to know if it’s worth it. Any thoughts?

I’ve done a lot of research on pet insurance, but I’ve never heard of Rainwalk. I tried getting a quote from them, but they’re not available in my state, so maybe they’re a new company? Personally, I’d feel more comfortable with a bigger name, but that’s just me. What kind of pet do you have, and what was the quote?

@Ren
I adopted a golden retriever from a shelter here in Illinois. The shelter is affiliated with Rainwalk, and they suggested it when I got my dog. The price is about $28-29 a month for 80% coinsurance, a $350 deductible, and a $20k policy limit with a 14-day waiting period for illness.

@Ocean
A vet student friend recommended Trupanion, but their quote was $90 for 80% coinsurance and a $200 deductible.

Yeah, Trupanion tends to be pricey. With such a low quote from Rainwalk, maybe try bumping up to 90% reimbursement and see how much the monthly cost changes.

I’ve been covering pet insurance for over a decade, and I haven’t come across Rainwalk before. When it comes to new companies, it’s a bit risky. Sometimes they don’t last, and if they shut down, any conditions your pet has could be considered pre-existing if you switch insurers later. If you’re looking for recommendations, I’d be happy to help. Let me know your pet’s details, like age, breed, and location, and I can suggest some other options.

@Dustin
Thank you! My dog is 4 months and 3 weeks old, a golden retriever, neutered, and has no pre-existing conditions. I’m located in Illinois.

For golden retrievers, I’d look for policies that cover things like hip dysplasia, skin conditions, and certain cancers. Here are some companies worth checking out:

  1. Pets Best: 14-day hip dysplasia waiting period and covers curable pre-existing conditions.
  2. Fetch: 6-month hip dysplasia waiting period and covers curable conditions after 1 year.
  3. Embrace: 6-month hip dysplasia waiting period and covers pre-existing conditions if your pet goes symptom-free for 1 year.
  4. Figo: 6-month hip dysplasia waiting period with coverage for curable pre-existing conditions.
  5. Lemonade: 14-day hip dysplasia waiting period and covers curable pre-existing conditions after 1 year.
  6. Trupanion: 30-day hip dysplasia waiting period and covers curable conditions if there are no symptoms for 18 months before enrolling.

You can get quotes from those companies and share them here if you’d like, and I can help compare the details.
