Can dogs eat watermelon skin or not?

Hey everyone! So, I was eating watermelon earlier, and my dog looked at me like he wanted some lol. I know dogs can eat watermelon (in moderation), but I was wondering… what about the skin? Is it safe, or should I avoid giving him that? Anyone had experience with this?

Yeah, I’d avoid giving the rind to your dog. It’s not toxic, but it can mess with their digestion. My vet said the texture’s too tough for dogs to handle.

Got it, thanks! Did your dog ever get into watermelon rinds by accident?

Watermelon rind isn’t poisonous, but it can cause blockages if your dog eats too much of it. Better safe than sorry!

Good point! What about seeds, though? Are those safe?

Oh, seeds are a no-go. They’ve got cyanide in them and can also choke smaller dogs. Definitely remove them first.

If your dog eats rind by accident, you should call a vet. They’ll know what to do, especially if it’s causing issues.

Good advice. What would the vet usually do in that case?

They’d check the dog’s stomach. Worst case, they might have to remove it surgically if it’s stuck. But that’s rare!

FYI, watermelon is actually super good for dogs in small amounts. It’s got vitamins and keeps them hydrated!

That’s awesome! Do you give your dog watermelon often?

Once in a while as a treat! Just gotta make sure there’s no rind or seeds in it.

Btw, too many seeds can block their intestines, especially in small dogs. Always remove them first!

Thanks for the heads-up! How many seeds would be too much?

IDK exactly, but even one or two might be risky for tiny dogs. Safer to just take them all out.
