Can you get pet insurance for pre-existing conditions? I’m really stressed out My little orange boy has had an eye ulcer, and I’ve been running back and forth to the vets since July. Clorogen and remend haven’t helped, so they’ve referred us to an eye specialist.
To sum it up, he has FHV-1 entropion, even though he was fully vaccinated and neutered since he was a kitten, and now he’s 8. They said he inherited it from his mom, and it has just flared up now.
They mentioned he might need to see the eye specialist and possibly have surgery that could cost thousands.
I’m searching for pet insurance that might cover this as a pre-existing condition. Does anyone know of any options that could help? I know it’s a long shot, but I regret not having insurance already. I’m in the UK
Unfortunately, all pet insurers usually deny coverage for active and pre-existing conditions Some might have a waiting period of several years for pre-existing ones but that doesn’t apply to your situation Your cat has a viral infection and those treatments won’t work
Thanks for your detailed response I really appreciate it Yeah, they initially thought it was just an ulcer, but now it makes sense why those treatments weren’t effective I’ll share this information with my vet
Topical antiviral medications like idoxuridine and trifluridine might be more effective for your cat You can check these links for more info: idoxuridine and trifluridine
Famciclovir, which is a human herpes drug, could be beneficial You would need to break the pill and give around 7% daily or twice daily for a 10-pound cat You might have to visit a walk-in clinic, explain your situation, and get a prescription It helps slow down virus reproduction to allow time for the immune system to respond Check out this link for more details
