Collar or harness, which one’s better for my dog?

I’ve been wondering if I should switch my dog to a harness. He pulls a lot on walks, and I feel like his collar might not be the best. I heard harnesses help with pulling and give better control, but IDK if it’s worth it. Anyone have experience with this?

I switched my dog to a front-clip harness, and it made a huge difference. He used to yank like crazy, but now I have way more control.

Oh nice! What’s a front-clip harness?

@Brice
It’s a harness where the leash attaches to the front instead of the back. It helps stop pulling since the dog kinda turns when they try to yank forward.

@Brice
Got it! Sounds like exactly what I need.

Collars are fine for dogs that don’t pull. My dog just wears one all the time for ID, but I use a harness for walks.

Yeah, I wanna keep a collar on for ID too. Do you find switching between them a hassle?

@Brice
Not really! I just clip on the harness when we go out. Way better than dealing with my dog choking himself lol.

A back-clip harness might not help much if your dog is a big puller. A front-clip is better for that.

Ah okay. What’s the difference between back and front clip?

Back-clip is comfy but doesn’t stop pulling much. Front-clip helps redirect them when they pull.

That makes sense! Thanks for explaining.

Harnesses are great because they reduce pressure on the neck. If your dog is a puller, a collar can actually cause neck injuries over time.

Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. Didn’t realize it could be that serious!

I’d talk to your vet if you’re not sure. They can recommend the best harness for your dog’s size and behavior.

Good idea! I’ll ask them next time we go in.
