Do people really adjust to the different personalities of cats and dogs?

I’m curious… if you have both a cat and a dog, do you end up just naturally adapting to how different they are? Like the way they play, how they like to be handled, or how you interact with them overall?

Honestly, I treat them pretty much the same! I feed them different food, of course, but I do all the same little things with them. I dress them up, take photos, play fetch, even tease them by pretending to throw a toy and hiding it. We take the dog on walks, but the cat has a carrier and leash too, so we bring him out in the yard sometimes. They both get to sleep on the bed and get the same amount of attention. I try to spend about the same on each of them too, so neither one feels left out. My cat was here first, but they both get treated with equal love and “annoyance” from me!

For sure!

Yes, but it’s not just about cats and dogs—it’s about each pet’s personality too. My current dog loves fetch and cuddling, but my last dog didn’t enjoy cuddles and didn’t care about fetch at all. My last cat loved being on my lap and wanted a lot of attention, while the one before him wasn’t big on being pet but loved playing. I just go with whatever works best for each one and adjust to what they like.
