Is pet insurance available for frequent vet visits?
I adopted a cat a few months ago who has a persistent allergy, leaving him constantly itchy. After visiting a dermatologist, it turns out he has a yeast infection and bacteria in his ear, which they hope to clear up to stop the itching. However, the treatment requires check-ups every two weeks, and I’m already on my third visit with little improvement. It’s becoming expensive, so I’m wondering if any pet insurance covers routine vet visits or check-ups.
Yes, there are options, but since you don’t already have insurance, the allergy will be considered a pre-existing condition and won’t be covered.
Lemonade offers an add-on that can cover vet visits.
Thanks for the quick response. It’s disappointing that the allergies are considered pre-existing, but I understand. I’m having a hard time finding insurance that covers vet check-ups. I’ve seen something called routine care, but I’m not sure if it’s the same thing.
It’s typically referred to as a wellness plan, and I believe most insurance providers offer it as an add-on.
From what I found during my previous search, most plans only cover one or two visits per year at most.
I believe Lemonade offers an add-on for cats at $4.50 that helps with visit costs, though it doesn’t cover treatment. Pre-existing conditions might apply, but I’m not certain.
