Does any pet insurance cover biopsy of lipomas in cats?
From what I understand, if a vet says it’s necessary for your pet’s health, most pet insurers will cover a biopsy of lipomas. Just keep in mind that it can’t be a pre-existing condition, or it won’t be covered
So, pre-existing just means something that wasn’t previously documented in medical records, right? If I get my pet insured and later discover a lipoma, could that still be covered?
It really depends on what’s noted in the vet records. Vets usually document what they see and what they suspect. Since lipomas don’t usually pop up overnight, it would probably be evident if one existed before you got the policy. Plus, it’s important to be honest with the vet about when you first saw it, as knowing whether it’s growing quickly or slowly matters for the diagnosis
No, pre-existing means any signs, symptoms, or diagnoses. Sure, you could say otherwise, but as mentioned, a vet will likely note the size of the mass or other signs indicating it was there before the policy started. Insurers are aware that people might “find” a “new” condition after the waiting period, so they’ll closely examine any claims made during that time
If it’s not a pre-existing issue, then yes. Your pet insurance should have a pre-approval process where you submit an estimate, and they’ll let you know if it’s approved or not
