I stayed at a friend’s house for two weeks, and we found out her cats had fleas. They started biting me, so I realized it was a problem. I went back home after washing all my clothes on high heat, and I haven’t seen any fleas since. But they’re still biting, so I’m assuming they came with me somehow.
While waiting for an all stages flea spray to arrive, I made my own spray with lemon juice, mostly apple cider vinegar, some coconut oil, and dish soap. I also bought a flea trap. But my family is moving soon, and there’s a mess everywhere with boxes and clothes everywhere. I’ve tried vacuuming, but I can’t get everywhere, and I’m starting to freak out.
I’m unsure whether to bring this up with the friend I house sat for. I told her, and she sent a spray and medicine, so I gave it to the cats, sprayed the house, and washed my clothes. But the bites are still happening, and I’m getting a bit frustrated. What do I do? Is this something I need to worry about? The boxes are going into storage for a few months before we move, but could the fleas follow me into the boxes?
TLDR: I house sat for a friend, and her cats had fleas. Now the fleas have followed me home… what should I do?
Did your friend know the cat had fleas? If not, I don’t think it’s a huge problem unless it costs you money to fix. If it’s something I could afford, I’d just deal with it and eat the cost. It’s awesome you helped out your friend, but unless they knew about the fleas, it’s just one of those things that happen.
@Roux
They didn’t know, and they did apologize. I’m just worried about how long the fleas will stay, especially with eggs and pupae being so tough to get rid of. Plus, the bites really hurt and itch, which has made it hard to manage. I’ll cover the cost, but man, I just want them gone.
