I will of course be talking to my vet about the preparation and post-surgery care, but I’d love to hear from others who have had similar experiences. Any advice or tips would be helpful to calm my nerves.
For those with monorchid cats, is the procedure any different or more risky for them?
What should I be doing before and after the surgery to make sure everything goes smoothly?
What can I do to make my cat more comfortable during recovery? Also, should I give him wet food after surgery (since it’s easier to eat), or should I stick with his usual diet of dry food and boiled chicken?
I’m just really nervous about him going through any pain, so any positive feedback would be much appreciated
Is your cat truly monorchid (just 1 testicle) or cryptorchid (a testicle that’s still inside the abdomen)? Was an ultrasound done to confirm? The surgery might be different depending on this.

One testicle is in his abdomen.
@Phoenix
In that case, they will make an incision in his abdomen to remove the testicle. His recovery will be similar to a spay (he’ll need exercise restriction, an E collar, pain meds, and no baths for 7-10 days). Most animals handle this procedure well. He should be fine to stick to his regular diet.
@Cleo
Will he be able to use the litter box normally after the surgery? Will I need to help him with anything like going to the bathroom?
