How Can I Establish Exclusions with ASPCA Pet Insurance?

How can I establish exclusions with ASPCA Pet Insurance? I need some advice on this as soon as possible. I have two rescues:

  • Female: I’ve had her since birth, and she has some serious issues that will need surgery. I know this won’t be covered since I signed up three months ago, but the issue started four months ago.
  • Male: We’ve had him for less than a year, and the rescue has gone out of business, so we have minimal documentation. I know it will be complicated to get his history checked and set up the exclusions.

For the female, can I submit a claim I know won’t be covered so they can check all her history? For the male, he has a small bump I’d like to get checked out, but he’s also due for annual shots. If I take him for both, will they apply the “sick” visit to the deductible even though he’s also getting shots?

I’m thinking long-term with high deductible plans. I just want to establish what they won’t cover down the road, so I’m trying to get them to review the records for both. I know it will take a while, but I don’t know another way to get the process started.

ASPCA will do a records review if you ask. You can just send in your records, and they’ll tell you what will or won’t be covered. Source: I used to work for them.

Oh, thank you! I read that they weren’t doing that anymore, so I’m glad to hear that wasn’t accurate.

I mean, it’s been a few years since I worked for them, but they used to do that as of 2019. Worth asking!

I just contacted them to ask this very thing, and they said they will not.
