How far can dogs see, anyone know?

I was just wondering how far dogs can actually see. I’ve heard they have great noses, but what about their sight? Do they see the same colors as us or what? And how far can they recognize their owners? Anyone know? :sweat_smile:

Dogs can only see blue and yellow, which is pretty wild. They can’t see red or green, so it’s a bit different than us. As for distance, I think they can recognize their owners from up to 50-100 feet. Some breeds can even catch a scent from miles away! :dog2:

Yeah, it’s weird, right? They mainly use their sense of smell to recognize you, especially from far away. So, if the wind’s right, they can totally pick up your scent from quite a distance. :paw_prints:

I’ve noticed my dog misses his toys sometimes, and I read somewhere that dogs’ vision can get worse as they age. Might explain it… :confused:

Oh wow, I didn’t know their vision worsens with age. That’s really helpful to know. I’ll keep an eye out for that with my pup!

Same here! My dog used to catch every ball but now he seems to miss them a lot more. I guess it’s just part of getting older? :sweat_smile:

Yeah, could be! If you notice him missing more than usual, it might be time to get him checked out.

No way, 12 miles? That’s so far! I think the smell factor makes sense though. Dogs’ noses are crazy powerful.

I wonder if there’s a way to know for sure if my dog is losing his vision… How do you check for that?

If he’s missing toys or not catching stuff like he used to, it might be a sign. It’s worth paying attention to his behavior!
