How much is pet insurance for Pomeranians?

Hey fellow Pom-Pom owners! I’ve been looking into the cost of insurance for my Pomeranian, and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. The average monthly premium seems to be around $50.55, but that’s kind of middle of the road for dog insurance, right? I’m wondering if it’s really worth it for Poms since they’re generally pretty healthy. Any thoughts? :dog::thought_balloon:

I think it’s worth it, honestly. Even though Poms are cute and healthy, they can have some major health issues like collapsed trachea or hypoglycemia. Vet bills can get crazy, so insurance might save you in the long run.

Yeah, especially when surgeries or ongoing treatments are involved. I had a friend who ended up paying thousands for her Pom’s surgery, insurance would’ve helped with that.

Oh wow, that’s intense! :grimacing: I didn’t realize how pricey vet care can get for Poms. Definitely something to think about.

I had no idea Pomeranians could get so many health issues! I’ve only had mine for a few months, but I’m definitely going to consider insurance now after reading this.

Same! I just got my Pom too, and I’m on the fence about insurance. But hearing about those health problems makes me think it might be a smart move.

I got insurance for my Pom last year, and so far, it hasn’t been needed. But I’ll be honest, it gives me peace of mind. I’d rather have it and not need it than not have it when something happens.

Totally! I feel like insurance is one of those things you hope you never need, but it’s a relief to have it just in case.

I’ve heard good things about Spot Pet Insurance for Poms. They have customizable plans so you can pick what works for your budget. Anyone else using it?

I’m looking into it too! The customizable options sound like they could be really helpful, especially if you don’t want to overpay. I think I’ll give them a try.

Just FYI, my Pom made about 8222 claims in 2024 (seems like not a lot for such a popular breed), but I still think the insurance is worth it for peace of mind and covering unexpected stuff.

Wow, 8222 claims? That’s interesting, but yeah, I guess it’s always better to have coverage and not use it than be stuck paying for something huge later.
