So, I’m really worried. My cat has been hiding from my roommate because he’s been way too rough with him. Sometimes, he pulls my cat by the tail just to give him hugs and kisses, which seems weird to me. The other day, I caught him pulling my cat out from under the table by the neck. I’ve told him before to stop, but he doesn’t seem to get it. Could this hurt my cat? Is this normal? I’m seriously concerned about my cat’s safety, but I don’t know how to make my roommate stop.
You definitely need to get a new roommate. That behavior is not okay, and they are going to end up hurting your poor cat.
Yes, it’s definitely a health hazard. The tail is part of the spine, and pulling it can cause serious injuries. Messing with a cat’s neck is dangerous too. Your roommate could end up hurting your cat badly.
@Marlon
Exactly, the tail muscles are connected to the spine and even the rectal muscles. It’s all linked, so pulling on it can cause major problems.
@Marlon
Yeah, tail injuries can sometimes be so bad that they lead to euthanasia. It’s serious.
If I ever caught my roommate doing that, I’d probably lose it and throw them out. No one should be treating an animal like that.

I had a similar situation. My old roommate raised his hand to my cat once, and I just snapped. I body-slammed him into a wall and kicked him out. You don’t mess with pets.
@Bran
Exactly! People can mess with me, I can handle it. But if they mess with a pet or a kid, then it’s a different story entirely.

Amen to that!

Seriously, though.

I once grabbed my cat by the tail by accident when he tried to run outside, and I felt so guilty. He wasn’t mad at me, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how bad I felt. I can’t imagine doing it on purpose like your roommate does.
What your roommate is doing is abusive, and it’s hurting your cat. Your cat is probably stressed because he doesn’t feel safe in his own home. You need to address this.
Is your roommate a child? Who does that?
Why are you letting this happen? It’s your job to make sure your cat is safe. You need to step up.

“Next thing you know, your post will be, ‘my roommate shot me and stole my car, should I be mad?’”
@Noor
Would it be too much if I reported him to the police?

Or maybe just leave a strongly worded note? SMH.
If my roommate ever tried something like that, we’d be having a serious problem. Either he’d be in jail, or I would for losing my temper.
If my roommate hurt my pet, there would be consequences. No one messes with my animals without facing me.

Exactly!
